I have dabbled with blogging since 2009 but could never find my niche – but at the same time I knew one day I would return. At the time blogging was generating income for some people, but it was still a bit of a whacky concept. Skip forward 9 years and the world of blogging, vlogging and everything in between is on a whole new level.
As you may know, my career as a therapist hit a bit of a dead end back in April when I reached burn out and all in all I felt a bit battered. I thought my skill set was TOO specific, that I had minimal transferable skills for any other job and my confidence was on the floor. At the same time I didn’t want to waste all the knowledge I had gained from 8 years at university and 4 years working as a therapist.
Obviously, I could rely on Google to have all the answers I needed.
Health and wellbeing is still very important to me – not only for my own selfish reasons but for early intervention and prevention. The statistics for mental health are staggering with 1 in 4 people experiencing a mental health problem PER YEAR (www.mind.org.uk) and that’s based on the number of people who come forward to seek help.
Now for some people, significant life events or experiences can trigger their mental health problems and this is beyond their control. For the average Joe, things like stress, work, relationships and finances can all have a big impact but there are steps we can take to help us and sometimes we just need a little courage to take those steps.
It is this decision that has led me to setting up my own company focusing on coaching to encourage a nutritional life – both with food and wellbeing. Taking time to look after yourself isn’t selfish, it is essential. Even if you only have 10 minutes to spare a day; instead of spending all that time scrolling through Instagram (guilty of it myself); take 5 of those minutes to clear your mind and look after yourself.
